Purple & Black Tomato plants
Purple tomato plants can appear dark, purplish, some are almost black or deep rusty red but all have a rich flavor that some have described as salty or smoky. These tomatoes are generally more acidic but still with a rich sweet wine type flavor and all are certified organically grown as single plants in 4.5″ pots.
This Black version of Brandywine is an excellent combination of sweetness and acidity, which is characteristic of the darker colored tomatoes. We love that strong tomato flavor.

These plants are compact, eighteen to twenty inch tall plants with wrinkled leaf foliage that displays a purplish cast, indicative of varieties containing the anthocyanin gene. The fruit are abundant, round, small (about one ounce each), and a glossy deep purple color, some with green shoulders, that becomes nearly black when exposed to the sun. As the fruit ripen, the purple dulls, the green turns red, and they soften. The flavor is generally mild and pleasant but can be on the tart side. Indeterminate Dwarf, 70 days.
